Programme Director

Responsibilities

A global financial institution is looking for a Programme Director to join its Data & Analytics function, which is responsible for building a modern data infrastructure across the organisation. The role leads an enterprise-wide transformation of the SAS Analytics environment, covering modernisation, workload migration, code remediation, adoption of the new platform and decommissioning of legacy systems.

The Programme Director leads a distributed delivery organisation of Programme Managers, senior delivery leads, workstream leads and specialists working across multiple locations. Day-to-day team management is delegated to the Programme Managers. The role sits on programme steering committees and working groups and works closely with business, technology, architecture, risk and control functions, as well as suppliers.

• Own the strategy and outcomes of the SAS transformation, including target state, investment priorities, sequencing, benefits realisation and transition to business as usual.
• Represent the transformation to senior leadership, lead discussions on scope, funding, risk and trade-offs, and secure agreement on direction and key decisions.
• Oversee the programme portfolio and hold Programme Managers accountable for milestones, budget, scope and quality. Resolve cross-programme dependencies and escalations.
• Approve the approach to migration and decommissioning, making sure decisions are backed by impact assessments, testing, business acceptance and control evidence.
• Run transformation governance: executive reporting, OKR tracking, risk and exception management, and change control.
• Own the investment plan, financial forecasts, resource strategy and prioritisation of new demand.
• Develop and coach Programme Managers and senior delivery leaders, and oversee their performance and succession.
• Own the supplier strategy, lead key negotiations and hold suppliers accountable for commitments and service levels.
• Own adoption of the new environment, including readiness, communications, training, operating model changes and handover to support teams.

Requirements

• 12+ years in programme, portfolio or transformation delivery, including leading large, globally distributed change portfolios.
• Experience directing large-scale platform and data migrations, including SAS environments, from option analysis and roadmap through to cutover, back-out planning and decommissioning.
• Deep understanding of SAS migration dependencies: code remediation, data lineage, reconciliation, control requirements, operational readiness and post-migration assurance.
• Track record of leading technology transformations across multiple business areas, platforms and regions, with accountability for overall outcomes.
• Experience owning governance, including benefits realisation, RAID, stage gates, cross-programme dependencies and audit-ready documentation.
• Ability to influence executive stakeholders across business, technology, operations, risk, security and suppliers.
• Background in regulated financial institutions, with a solid understanding of risk, controls, audit and regulatory expectations.
• Experience with business cases, financial forecasts and prioritisation decisions across a large portfolio.
• Experience managing Programme Managers and leading multicultural teams in a matrix environment.
• Working knowledge of Agile, hybrid and traditional delivery approaches. Agile certifications such as SAFe are a plus.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, from board level to technical teams, and fluent English.

• Prestigious position at one of the world’s largest banks.
• Stable, long-term projects.
• Competitive salary with a B2B contract.
• Hybrid work (6 days per month from the office in Cracow).
• Private healthcare and multisport card.
• Personal growth and development opportunities with the possibility to rotate between projects.
