Mature, Experienced, Decisive
Untill February 2026, Enpulse together with the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) will conduct a nationwide study on the attitudes and needs of Generation X (1965–1980) — a group representing over 40% of the actively working population. It will be the first study of this scale in Poland, comparable to the Work War Z project, which gathered over 12,000 participants. The results will be presented in spring 2026.
Are They Really Important?
For three decades, Generation X quietly built post-transformation companies, modernised public administration, and guided younger cohorts through the labour market. Today, as Poland faces rapid population ageing, a talent shortage, and an approaching wave of retirements among experienced specialists, the key question becomes: how can we fully leverage the potential of Generation X — and what conditions must be created to encourage them to “keep playing”?
“GeeX gives a voice to people aged 45+. We want to understand what motivates them, what drives their development ambitions, and what barriers they are currently facing in the labour market. This is a generation that rarely asks for attention — they simply deliver results. Now it’s time for us to deliver reliable knowledge about them” says Magda Pietkiewicz, co-founder of Enpulse.
Z + X = ?
The GeeX study is based on a methodology aligned with Work War Z, the largest European project analysing Generation Z in the labour market. For the first time, a comparative analysis of the attitudes and expectations of Generations X and Z will be created — two forces shaping today’s work environment.
The outcome will be insights and practical guidance for businesses, HR departments, and public institutions working in labour market development and adult education. The goal is also to reduce ageism and build inclusive workplaces where maturity is an advantage, not a deficit.
“Generation X is the backbone of many organisations and one of the key drivers of economic resilience. If we want to address real challenges — from skills gaps to increasing caregiving responsibilities — we must listen closely to their needs and translate them into action” emphasises Tomasz Szklarski, the originator of the GeeX study.
Business and Academia, Side by Side
The project’s strategic partner is the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH). GeeX aligns with the university’s mission to create knowledge that supports decision-making in business and public administration. The project will culminate in a scientific conference presenting the results in spring 2026.
GeeX also brings together a Scientific Council, combining the perspectives of academia, public administration, and business. Its members include:
· Dr hab. Agnieszka Chłoń-Domińczak (SGH),
· Anita Noskowska-Piątkowska (Head of the Civil Service),
· Paweł Jaroszek (ZUS Management Board),
· Antonio Carvelli (Vice President, GI Group),
· Paweł Dziekoński (Vice President, Fakro).
Why Does This Matter?
According to PSMM data, the Work War Z study collected nearly 12,000 responses and was covered in 3,360 publications, reaching a total audience of over 240 million people. This demonstrates the enormous demand for reliable, comparable data on generations and their role in the labour market.
With a shared methodology, the two studies will allow direct comparison of the attitudes and needs of two generations. GeeX will broaden the perspective, enabling new insights and conclusions.
