We are working as a recruitment provider searching on our Client’s behalf for a person in the following role:
Join a database infrastructure team responsible for the design, build, and support of database systems supporting business-critical applications and infrastructure services. You will become part of a collaborative team of technical specialists working across multiple database management systems, including Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Cloud DB platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, Ali Cloud). This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role within a high-performing infrastructure team, covering everything from small changes to large complex migrations that support the organization’s strategic goals.
What you will do:
• Lead and deliver infrastructure initiatives such as platform upgrades, standardisation and decommissioning
• Build and manage database environments, supporting reduced physical server deployments and optimised cost
• Assess and deploy security patches and critical updates, ensuring compliance with internal controls
• Evaluate new database technologies, produce proof-of-concepts and support safe adoption across the estate
• Provide internal consultancy to project teams on database design, resilience and backup/recovery
• Produce clear documentation for internal publication, including standards, procedures and runbooks
• Report progress and risks to management with concise updates on status, issues and dependencies
• Support change and incident activities, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis, via an on-call / rota model
• Strong hands-on experience with at least one enterprise RDBMS, such as Oracle (RMAN, Data Guard, RAC, Exadata), DB2, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server
• Ability to learn and adopt new database technologies quickly
• Experience with shell scripting and automation, such as Bash, PowerShell, Python or Ansible, depending on platform
• Strong understanding of IT operations, including incident/change management and controlled production practices
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical topics clearly to varied audiences
• Strong organisational skills, methodical and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple priorities
