We are working as a recruitment provider searching on our Client’s behalf for a person in the following role:

Senior Unix Administrator

Responsibilities

You will configure, deliver and support Linux (RHEL) server environments and services across application development DevOps pods. The role covers both live and non-live environments, with a strong focus on stability, compliance and automation.

What you’ll do

  • Configure, deliver and support Linux (RHEL) server environments in a DevOps infrastructure delivery model
  • Work with application teams and DevOps pods to deploy centrally provided services, maintaining and improving SLAs
  • Automate BAU tasks through Linux/UNIX scripting (shell / Perl / Python)
  • Advise on Unix/Linux design and best practices across project lifecycles (build, ITSA, implementation)
  • Maintain capacity management standards and procedures, identify capacity risks and agree demand changes with application teams
  • Assess and implement changes based on requests for change, translating business requirements into technical specifications
  • Troubleshoot incidents and perform root cause analysis to prevent recurrence

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Linux server administration (RHEL)
  • Experience configuring filesystems on NAS and EMC SAN storage, both standalone and clustered, including replication
  • Linux administration and architecture experience, including volume managers, multipathing and kernel parameter tuning
  • Scripting and automation skills (shell / Perl / Python)
  • Experience with x86 hardware and virtualisation platforms (VMware, Citrix, Hyper-V)
  • Working knowledge of networking (TCP/UDP, LAN/WAN, F5, VIPs, firewalls, Cisco)
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
  • Experience in a large enterprise or highly regulated environment, e.g. Financial Services
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams

Nice to have

  • Solaris (x86/SPARC) and SLES experience
  • Knowledge and troubleshooting of Veritas Volume Manager and Veritas Cluster Server
  • Industry-standard UNIX certifications
  • ITIL / service operations knowledge
  • Experience working in an agile environment
