Poland is a destination for near-shoring and has been for many years. One of the functions that large companies have delegated to the Central Eastern European country is the cybersecurity function. Threat hunters, penetration testers, analysts, and researchers are just some of the people needed to work in cybersecurity. Today we focus on the top international cybersecurity teams operating in Poland.

Cybersecurity as a challenge is something that security and risk management (SRM) leaders must face. Many of them, and you, will be familiar with Gartner. You may be aware of Gartner’s ‘Top Trends in Cybersecurity for 2024’ which was published in January. The report states that “by 2026, organizations prioritizing their security investments based on a continuous threat exposure management program will realize a two-thirds reduction in breaches”.

The report goes on to highlight how “ownership of cyber risk is not something a business can outsource”. There is more, especially around the topic of generative AI. This new trend, according to Gartner “prompts short-term skepticism but inspires long-term hope”.

All these challenges and more are things that companies nearshoring to Poland have considered. And there are a lot of these companies.

Why are Companies Building Cybersecurity Teams in Poland?

Up until Covid and then the war in Ukraine the situation when it comes to cybersecurity incidents in Poland was unremarkable. From 2020 this changed. According to Statista, in 2011 there were only 605 incidents compared to an astronomical 80,267 in 2023.

This growth in cyber threats has coincided with an increase in preparedness to prevent cyber threats within Poland. Today, Poland ranks as the readiest country in the world to deal with cyber threats. Cybersecurity professionals in Poland are ready to defend the country. They are also ready to defend the infrastructure of the large number of centres. Centres belonging to corporations that have chosen one of Poland’s cities as a hub for a cybersecurity team.

The most likely targets for cyber criminals and sophisticated hackers are large companies that have grown too quickly. International banks and financial institutions. And companies that handle a lot of data, think airlines or health companies.

Who are the Companies with International Cybersecurity Teams Based in Poland recruiting on Glassdoor?

In Poland some of the largest employers of cybersecurity professionals are UBS, HSBC, Credit Suisse, Citi, or Standard Chartered. Today over 18,000 people on LinkedIn in Poland mention cybersecurity. The most popular employers are international corporations. There is a total of 339 cyber jobs listed on Glassdoor. We analysed some of them.

EY is looking for a security analyst, a cyber threat detection and response consultant, a junior cyber security consultant with German, a cloud security manager (DevSecOps), and others.  The roles are based in Wroclaw where the consulting firm already has a large cybersecurity team.

Citi has many cyber roles listed on Glassdoor.  These include a senior officer – risk analytics & regulation reporting, a senior analyst – technology risk, a senior analyst – cybersecurity risk, and others. The roles are listed as being in Poland, however Citi is based in Warsaw.

Accenture, the global consulting leader, is actively recruiting in Poland too. The specialists being sought after are a junior cyber incident responder, an OT / ICS cyber security analyst, a digital identity analyst, a CyberArk PAM onboarding engineer, and more. Some of the roles are based out of Lodz where Accenture has a large presence.

UBS, the bank which recently acquired Credit Suisse, is looking for a senior red team tester, a senior cyber threat intelligence analyst, a senior cyber security risk assessor, and more. The roles are predominantly based out of Krakow, where UBS started its operations in Poland.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. is looking to expand its cybersecurity team in Warsaw. The bank is currently looking for a product security lead – senior lead cybersecurity architect, a principal security engineer – product, and more. JPMorgan is currently the largest bank in the U.S.

Other companies looking for cyber specialists on Glassdoor include healthcare companies like GSK, Bayer or Fresenius Medical Care. Reckitt Benckiser, famous for products like Air Wick, Vanish or Finish, is another company on the hunt to grow its cyber capabilities in Poland. Mettler Toledo, Dyson, Heineken, KION, Qualtrics, and many others are also advertising on Glassdoor.

Who are the Companies with International Cybersecurity Teams Based in Poland according to Pracuj.pl?

According to Poland’s leading jobs portal pracuj.pl there are only 95 cybersecurity positions being advertised in Poland today. Some of the companies looking for cyber talent include Qiagen from Wroclaw, T-Mobile, PwC, Siemens Healthcare, AVON or L’Oreal in Warsaw, and Euroclear in Krakow,

HSBC, the largest employer in Krakow, is looking for the largest number of cyber security specialists according to pracuj.pl. The biggest bank in Europe is on the lookout for a Head of SRE cryptography engineering, a cybersecurity service manager, an incident response senior analyst, and more. HSBC has one of the most developed cybersecurity teams in Poland.

There are companies who employ a substantial amount of cyber security specialists outside of the above list. For instance Cisco in Krakow, a company which has been at the forefront of all things cyber for many years. IBM has a large team of cyber specialists dotted around Poland. Atos in Bydgoszcz has built a large team over the years. There is PepsiCo in Warsaw too. The convenience foods and beverages company has been developing its cyber capabilities in Poland for many years now. Standard Chartered in Warsaw, and Santander in Wroclaw are the last two big international players with teams in Poland.
