Somewhere between the “emerging market” label it never quite shook off and the quiet confidence of a country that keeps beating its own forecasts, Poland has arrived. New Eurostat figures make it official as they describe how Poland is now the sixth largest EU economy.

At €922.9 billion in 2025, Poland’s economy accounts for roughly 4.9% of the entire EU. Only Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands sit above it. Everyone else, Belgium, Sweden, Ireland, Austria, is now looking up at Warsaw. And within Central and Eastern Europe it is not so much leading the pack as in a different postcode: Romania (€380.1 billion), the Czech Republic (€347.3 billion) and Hungary (€218.8 billion) are not remotely close.

The Country That Refuses to Slow Down

Poland grew 3.6% in real terms last year. The EU as a whole managed 1.5%.

While the eurozone kept checking its pulse, Poland just kept running, powered by years of industrial muscle, booming exports and a domestic market that likes to spend. This is not a lucky quarter. It is the same long climb that earned the country its billing as Europe’s economic miracle, and it shows no sign of stopping.

The Catch Nobody Mentions (and Employers Love)

Now for the twist… big is not the same as rich.

Measured per head, Poland’s GDP still sits below 85% of the EU average. For Poles, that is the frustrating bit, real convergence is still a work in progress.

For anyone building a team, it is the opportunity of the decade: a top-six EU economy where salaries remain refreshingly sane next to the UK and Western Europe. Verita HR has watched that gap play out in both its Poland versus UK wage analysis and its salary benchmarks.

Top-tier capability at a mid-tier price is exactly why the banks, the tech firms and the shared-services giants keep planting flags in Warsaw and Krakow.

So, Where Does That Leave Hiring?

A hotter economy is a more competitive one. Skilled people in IT, finance and engineering are not sitting idle, and the companies that move first tend to land the best of them before the market catches up and puts prices up with it. That is where a local partner stops being a nice-to-have.

Verita HR helps employers enter and scale in Poland across recruitment, outsourcing, payroll and employer-of-record support, so the momentum works for you rather than against you.

Poland’s story is not finished, and that per-capita gap proves there is plenty of road left. But the trajectory is set, and it rewards the employers who read the map early. To hire with confidence in the sixth largest EU economy, talk to Verita HR.

Working at JP Morgan in Poland: Salary, Reviews and Culture (2026)

When JP Morgan chose Warsaw for a new operations centre in 2017, then Deputy Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told public radio the bank would hire several thousand people in “well paid jobs”. Reuters reported the work would centre on data management, risk and credit-risk management, and supply chain. Poland had won mid-tier work that London was shedding
