The Rise of ActionCOACH and Brad Sugars

ActionCOACH was started by Brad in Australia in 1994. His first nickname amongst business owners was ‘The Turnaround Kid,’ which inspired him to put his ideas into practice. It led to the creation of ActionCOACH’s new headquarters in Las Vegas, where the company has been located since 2006.

It was not long after this that the story of Verita HR started. In 2008 the founders of Verita HR started discussing the opportunity to be ActionCOACH’s Master Licensee for Poland. The initial idea for the business was to help business owners in Poland, much like what Brad had been doing for years.

One of the things that made ActionCOACH stand out was how the coaching services were offered. Business owners need to pay a monthly fee for their business coach, however, should the business not increase revenue and profitability, then the cost of the coach would be credited back after one year. A success fee arrangement.

How ActionCOACH Inspired Verita HR

Brad Sugars is not only the CEO of ActionCOACH, but he is also a renowned international speaker and writer. So far, he has published almost thirty books. His first book, The Business Coach, was published in 2006.

In this first book about business coaching, Brad highlighted six areas of focus for business owners. These include:

Mastery

There are three areas of focus under Mastery, these are:

  • Money Mastery, the theory that profits are crucial in business. No profits, no business. Stay on top of your Profit and Loss, know your numbers past and present, focus on profit margins, reporting and watch your break even point.
  • Delivery Mastery, the theory of ensuring quality and consistent delivery of products and services
  • Time Mastery, the theory of being efficient with your time

Niche

This is where Brad Sugars comes into his own. His business chassis concept is an easy guide to understand how to get more customers, revenues and profits:

Leverage

A successful business is one that runs itself. Profitably. There are four types of leverages that ActionCOACH recommends: Structure, Management, How-to, and Technology.

Team

Businesses need people with common goals to work together and create an organization. To do this a business needs to be attractive to potential employees. The book highlights 6 keys to a winning team to help business owners.

Synergy

Combine efforts strategically so the whole exceeds the sum of its parts (think 1+1=3, like a well-tuned orchestra).

Results

Job done. Maybe its time to sell the business? Or perhaps a bit more tweaking of the business chassis.

It’s not just because of what Brad Sugars wrote about in 2006. It’s a culmination of many things that have affected the growth of Verita HR. In the first five years the company needed to scale aggressively, the business chassis was key in developing our market and maintaining profitability.
